Christabel Gilbert

Christabel works as a graphic designer and illustrator and, as such, her work ranges from creating cartoons for the Manic Depression Fellowship to designing 3D glasses for the Dance Tent at Glastonbury Festival !

"In Venice I was mesmerized by the golden, mosaic ceiling of St Marks. That, and my love of Byzantine Art , forms the biggest influence in my paintings. I cannot resist a touch of gold somewhere!" she explains, "I also love the Pre-Raphaelites, the Arts & Crafts movement and, of the present day, the Singh Twins."

Over and above everything else she is passionate about fabric.  Her degree, from Liverpool Art College, was in Fashion Textiles.  "I still get the ‘tingle factor’ seeing beautiful textures and colour in fabric - particularly the glittery ones !".

Christabel is a member of the Quilters Guild and has taught patchwork and quilting to children and adults.  In 1982 she brought together three other Guild members to form Gwent Quilters, which is still thriving today, and this year she led a group of volunteers to produce a commemorative quilt for the tenth anniversary of Caerleon Festival.

"I am a relative new-comer to painting, and more often than not, fabric or reference to fabric is evident….. along with the gold !"

Until recently Christabel was a member of Abergavenny Art Group and  exhibited her work at their summer exhibition.  She may be contacted via email:
