Dot Powell

Following retirement, one of the things on her ‘to do’ list was to try her hand at drawing and painting. She explained, "I enrolled on Jantien Powell’s ‘Learn to Draw’ course in 2013, which was an excellent starting point. Unfortunately we decided to move house shortly afterwards so I spend the next three years painting walls, doors and skirting boards! Not quite the type of painting I envisaged."

Eventually she found the time and courage to return to Chapel Cottage Studio and started following a mixed media programme. "It was another great starting point, having the opportunity to try out different techniques and usually coming away with something quite acceptable. More recently I joined Emma Price’s mixed media class, another great opportunity to experiment with lots of different ideas."

During lockdown Dot subscribed to several online courses as she says she is still not very confident about ‘doing her own thing’.  She wanted to try to improve her watercolour technique and so that is what she have been concentrating on over the past few months.

She is a  member of Abergavenny Art Group.
